CAIRO (AP) - Around 380 people were killed in tribal clashes in Sudan between January and August, most of them in the conflict-wracked Darfur region, the U.N.
said Tuesday.
The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, or OCHA, said more than 430 people were injured during the same period, which has seen 224 violent incidents in 12 of the country´s 18 provinces.
The clashes - mostly between Arab and non-Arab tribes - have displaced around 177,340 people, OCHA said, further straining operations of aid agencies in the crisis-hit country.
West Darfur province was the hardest hit with 76 incidents that killed at least 145 people and wounded 156 others, it said.
The tally did not include 23 people, including two children, who were killed when tribal fighting renewed earlier this month in the Blue Nile Province, Save the Children charity said.
The violence, which erupted Sept.
1 and last for four days in the town of Roseires, also wounded 23 people, including 10 children, according to the charity.
Sudan, home to several long-running ethnic conflicts, has plunged into chaos since a military coup last year. The takeover upended the country´s short-lived transition to democracy after a popular uprising forced the removal of longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir in April 2019.

Didier Deschamps has calmed concerns over his side's performance after a disappointing 2-0 loss to Denmark in Copenhagen on Sunday night.
The French manager's reaction to the defeat was to quiet talk of a panic, suggesting that the result was not representative of what his side are capable of, having chosen to ring the changes ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash.
A six-minute first half salvo from Kasper Dolberg and Andreas Skov Olsen sunk the visitors, as their poor form continues with just one win in six since March.
Didier Deschamps insisted that it is not time to panic despite just one win in six for France

As reported by French outlet , Deschamps claimed the loss was more a result of his decision to field an inexperienced side, rather than any tactical issues.
He said: 'I don't think it's a shipwreck, we also had a lot of chances but we were ineffective, we made some errors when playing out from the back.
'It's a young French side, where for the majority of the players don't have experience at the very highest level.
France's inexperience showed as they struggled to make finish all seven of their chances
'It's not a question of formations, but when you have four corners and a Danish player is left alone each time, you can play with three, five or twelve at the back, it doesn't change a thing.'
'There's no need to worry, having the players with international experience back will do us good. There's no worrying, it's difficult for everyone.
'Last night I was watching other games, there are other big teams that are losing as well. We shouldn't think of ourselves as better than the others. We're going to have to fight.'
Kasper Dolberg (L) - pictured with Christian Eriksen (R) - opened the scoring in the 33rd minute
Andreas Skov Olsen fired in a second six minutes later to put Denmark 2-0 ahead at the break
France had several players out injured including Paul Pogba, Karim Benzema and Hugo Lloris, and began the game with Raphael Varane and Ousmane Dembele on the bench as Deschamps looked to give his less-experienced players minutes.
William Saliba was taken off at half-time in his sixth competitive appearance
But the move did not pay off, as his side struggled to convert any of the seven shots on target that they managed in the game, despite a World Cup-winning front three of Olivier Giroud, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.
However, Deschamps will take pleasure in the fact that - as he noted - France are not the only side to struggle ahead of the World Cup.
Germany were defeated on home soil by Hungary on Friday, whilst England are without a goal from open play since a friendly victory over Ivory Coast in March.
Spain have also won only twice in six as several of the pre-tournament favourites stutter in their final preparations.
